Good to know that your image quality problem ended up being some type of ground issue, and eventually you got it working and got sharp pictures as they can be, after fixing this hardware contact problem -- the BNC casings connected to ground. As you can see, some times, hardware could cause problems and it's not always the software or driver problems.

I'm capturing using a Sensoray 311 also, and my images also look terrible (they are NTSC,
but the same cameras look much better using a wintv 401)... Perhaps something is not
quite right with bttv for the sensoray boards (the risc micrccode??).
 
I'm using a modified version of the still app available on sensoray's website.
