using mpeg-2 hardware encoding

Hi everyone,

I am using an ATI TV-Wonder and it has hardware mpeg-2 encoding on board. It seems that it may only be for the svideo and composite input and not for the tv tuner. Regardless of this, I would like to figure out the best method for utilizing the hardware mpeg-2.

What tool would be best for this? I am not sure if all I need to do is copy the stream or specify that it is an mpeg-2 source (to whatever tool I am using to record). Right now I am experimenting with some of the nvrec software and have also used ffmpeg. I have heard about mpeg2enc but most of these tools seem to want to do all the encoding themselves.

Am I missing something here? I would appreciate any help, thanks!
