Which video grabber?

I've managed to record TV shows with nuvrec from the NuppelVideo
package (http://mars.tuwien.ac.at/~roman/nuppelvideo/). But I'm having
some problems with it and development doesn't seem to be very active.

It should also be possible to record with nvrec
(http://nvrec.sourceforge.net/) but I haven't been able to compile
that one.

Then there's mencoder, which according to the documents can grab video
from a v4l device.

The webvcr+ howto also mentions lavrec from the MJPEGTools project and
ffmpeg (http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/)

Which one should I go for?
