bttv freezing in overlay mode (WinTV go -> NVIDIA TNT2)

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I am experiencing reproducable immediate hangs, when I try to use a Hauppage
WinTV go card in my system. Calling xawtv would hang the system a second later
(after displaying the TV input) leaving only the audio pass through the
external cable. modprobing bttv is O.K., only xawtv crashes the system (this
is contrary to other similar reports where the system was hanging already when
modprobing bttv).

After some trial and error I managed to get the card going with the following
xawtv command: "xawtv -remote -noxv-video" (without the latter option xawtv is
giving a black screen). The "-remote" seems to turn off overlay, so I did this
explicitely in .xawtvrc (capture=grabdisplay). If I then try to switch within
xawtv to overly mode the system freezes again.

What I already tried:
o Removed NVIDIA drivers and used standard "nv" drivers instead,
o Upgraded bttv to 0.9.1 (including the needed v4l2 patches)
o Upgraded to latest xawtv (3.78 ... Had to upgrade make, autoconf and automake
  for that!),
o Booted a non-custom kernel with bttv 0.7.x
o Called vl4-conf in advance

Thanks for any hints, Axel.
