I've been trying to figure out which camera + card combination will let me get the highest refresh rate. Something above a regular firewire DV cam on a Mac would be ideal.

I see, for example, that the Bt8x8 cards are popular, but what actual products being sold are based on these cards? I can't seem to find any.

BT848 is a chip, not a card. Products don't say "based on Bt848" on the outside, but many, many are. If you download the bttv source code, or look at the source in a modern kernel like 2.4.18, then you'll see bttv-cards.c which has a whole list of cards based on those chips. Another option is to go to a store and look at a card you like. Get the sales person to show you the card (ie. take it out of the box.) It will likely have a chip that says "Conexant Fusion BT878A" on it, which is a modern variant of Bt8x8's.

P.S. I have an ATI TV Wonder. It has an 878A. It doesn't work yet (locks the machine up solid on modprobe.)
