We could easily follow the TV Norm, as given in xawtv. See tda9887.c in upcoming bttv-0.7.98 for implementing "autodetect" for switching between PAL,NTSC,SECAM. for tuner.c this would work fine, as long the vendor uses only tuners with the same Tuner-API
