glav will hopefully support openDML in the next development cycle - it's
one of the planned features. To record non-openDML avi files, record
files smaller than 2 GB with streamer or use a tool like lavrec (part of
mjpegtools) instead, whihc creates multiple 2 GB files (non-openDML),
rather than one big file.

My simple solution:
lavrec [options] file-%02d.avi
glav [options] file-*.avi
