Gerd recommends some kernel patches - check www.bytesex.org. A warning is
that I don't think Gerd's v4l2 interface into bttv is very widely used, so
"issues" are quite likely.

I did also have trouble with sound with bttv 0.8. One issue was with the
sound not following correctly between tuner and composite and radio in
every case. There was also a problem to do with muting - I'd have to dig
out the particulars. I did send patches for msp3400.c to Gerd and I think
he applied them or equivalent. But I haven't tried his later releases, so
perhaps there's still an issue.

My v4lctl uses the "-v" option for debug level. It finds and uses the
v4l2 interface automatically. Looking at the debug displays, it looks
like v4lctl volume 65535

This v4lctl came from xawtv 3.62.

Perhaps its time for me to pull the latest bttv and test here, compare the
code.
