I have been hoping to get away with mp1e on the K6-300.

I don't think I am finding the video quality better with DIVXrec (or
DIVX4rec) compared to mp1e but the resulting filesize is sure smaller.
Usually by half at the same bitrate, although that does not make much
sense.

The CPU usage is definately higher with DIVX[4]rec than mp1e plus avi
files are not seekable until they are closed so timeshifting with the
NVrec DIVX*rec tools is not possible.
