This should not happen. I have looked at the pictures and it look like the effect from capturing pictures from a
camera. But it should not happen if you captured from a video. And as you mention you do capture the pictures. But
sometimes something happen.

There is to possible reason :
a bug in xawtv or bttv driver.
Your video source. try to capture from at other source. (fx some channel like CNN).
