IMHO it means, that your computer is too slow to encode in realtime
I have K6-2 500 with VIA MVP3, I can get:
- quicktime in 512x384
- RTErte in 320x240
can't get divx in any accepted resolution

and BTW - RTErec create very bad movies, sync is broken, frames are dropped,
even when RTErec tell that drop=0
bad think with QTrec is size of file - 2h movie is bigger than 2GB, so I think
I enter mystical world of reiserfs soon
