I had very simlar problem. I could change channels up via cursor. Then if
I would change direction, say one channel down, and then go back up, the
numbering would be messedup, for example one up would jump from 4 to 8
then to 10, etc. channels names would be messed up as well, and eventually
it would seg fault. I tried to track it under gdb, but all I could have
figured out that it was runnable thread and and it crashed somewhere deep
inside of the libraries. (if there's interested I can provide output of
where).

doing 'make distclean' and 'make' again would have it recompiled against
libXaw (and libXpm?) instead of libXaw3d and thus "fixed" the problem.
