MaxSize strangeness and video corruption

Hi,

A short while ago there was a thread talking about the differences in MaxSize
reported by the bttv driver (924 and 768). This depended on the video norm
selected by the driver (since PAL reports 924 and NTSC reports 768).

I've noticed that when I set my video window (in xawtv, with overlay, without
using the v4l Xv extension) to certain sizes, the right hand border of the
picture is corrupted (about an inch or more). This area looks like
it's fine on one line, then progressively darker for the next 10 or so lines,
and then the process repeats. If the height of the window is an integer
fraction of the maxheight (576, 288, etc), then the distortion goes away.

Reading through the bt848 pdf, I get the impression that the max active video
for PAL should be 768 (and 924 is the number of pixels per line, including
active, sync and blanking, perhaps?). Should the driver report 768 as the
maxwidth for PAL?

It would appear that by asking the bt848 to scale up to 924 pixels, it's
going a bit funny.

Can anybody comment on this?

PS
I'm actually using a bt878
bttv-0.7.64 with kernel 2.2.18 and XFree86 4.0.2
