It's horribly out of date now (I'll update it some day... maybe...) but
try the HOWTO at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/BTTV-Mini-HOWTO-0.3.html It will at
least give you the basic idea of what's going on.  Then read the docs
with the current BTTV to see what's changed.  Biggest thing is probably
that instead of individual modules for each sound chip, most of them are
now contained in tvaudio.o
