fbtv remote control?

Is there a way to set the channels, etc of fbtv running on another
computer? What I would like to do is, while fbtv is running displaying
some TV channel, log in to that computer remotely with ssh and issue a
command to change the channel, either up, down or to a specific
channel. I have been unable to get this to work using the v4lctl
command in this manner:

# v4lctl -v 2 -c /dev/video0 setchannel 31
Xv: compiled without Xvideo extention support
init: trying: v4l2...
open /dev/video0: Device or resource busy
init: failed: v4l2
init: trying: v4l...
v4l: open /dev/video0: Device or resource busy
init: failed: v4l
Segmentation fault

It does change the channel remotely if fbtv is not running, but that
doesn't seem very useful for interactive use.
