Any help would be greatly appreciated. I worked on the SANE-V4L2 backend (http://video.inodes.org/sane-v4l2/). You could try giving that a go, if you can install v4l2. What video card are you using? IIRC, sane-v4l only worked for a couple of cards. Conrad.
